Open Question: Air pollutin in Christchurch?

Hey all, I'm considering doing a semester long study abroad in Christchurch at the University of Canterbury. I think I would like the city, it seems like like it has a lot of the things I want, but I have one concern, the winter smog I keep reading about. I realize its not as bad as in LA or London, but I've lived in Nebraska all my life and am not used to any air pollution.
